155 Gospel Defined

The word Gospel, continued from the home page.  The word Gospel means good news, it is defined as a free gift (Romans 6:23 “… the gift of God is eternal life found in Jesus Christ our Lord.”).  If it was not a free gift found in Jesus Christ, that would inevitably mean that you would always be confused from day to day whether or not you can really save yourself.  We are all sinners, no sinner can fully understand either their own sin or the totality of Christ’s righteousness and what he needs to do to avoid sin, then alone do it.  If it is a message of confusion this is not the message of Jesus and His Apostles.  Romans 9:32 says concerning the Jews who could not believe, that they were not saved  “Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law.”  They trusted rather in their own righteous deeds, rather than the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and this is why Christ was crucified by mankind.

OUR SIN AND RIGHTIOUSNESS AND GOD’S JUDGMENT:

.

If you have truly trusted Jesus you would allow Him into your life and allow Jesus to be your Savior, friend, and Lord because you trust that He has the better way, you would read His words and take heed to His commandments because you trust that He is right and very able more so then you.  Jesus said in Revelation 3:20: “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

.

Being saved the believer is given the Holy Ghost who convicts the world of righteousness, sin, and the judgment to come.  Romans  8:29 says “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”  This Scripture shows that those who are saved are predestinated to be conformed to the image of God the Son.  If there are no works then there is no faith.  (James 2:14)  Titus 1:16 says that of some, “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.”.  So a man is not saved by works, but works demonstrate salvation has come to the one who believes.  You do not have to work to keep your salvation, if so then you are your own savior and you are not saved by Christ.

.

Jesus said to the seven churches in the introduction in the Book of Revelation that He would judge them by their works.  Here He is talking about Christian organisations, the Church.  Christians are judged in this life based on what they do or don’t do, but this has no bearing on salvation.  That judgment for salvation has already been made in the cross for those who trust in what Christ said He did for them.
