Why Redirectionalism can be considered to be the only orthodox Eschatology.
Hebrews 11:16ff But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city…. 39And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
I think that Hebrews is saying that Heaven was not perfectly defined until the First-fruits inherited the promises of Revelation 1-3.
The following verses point to something happening in elect Israel’s near future. Daniel 12:1,2,13; Matt 22:32; John 14:3; Acts 24:14; 1 Thess 4:13ff; 1 Corinthians 15:51-57.
What happened was to define everything both past present and future. I think Revelation to the seven churches of that time makes it abundantly clear that it was the Churches maturity by works [Just as it was by Christ by His works] that they reached a perfection and obedience by following the way to the Father. At the end they would be like Christ, the church could be defined as like Christ. 1 John 3:2 says “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.”. Through trials and persecution the church would reach a state of maturity. Or at one point in time, it became normal for the Church to fulfill Revelation 1-3, there was a perfection found in the Church that would define the Bride, a work of sanctification done by the Holy Spirit, not for salvation but for identification of that which could be called the Bride of Christ. “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.” This would be after many trials and tests, Revelation 6:9-11, Hebrews 2:10 “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”.
At that point then an orthodoxy was established, a Way was established in the earth Rev. 21-22, a Heavily Israel replacing Earthly Israel was established. Now if we want to inherit those same promise we must likewise follow that same Way. I am not saying that one is saved by works, but I that the Church is saved by works, Rev 1-3.
It was after this point that God’s saints could be said to be resurrected into Christ’s kingdom. Something else might have been going on literally in heaven, God created time, God is not limited by time. However everything would be defined, sacrifices, the temple, righteousness, holiness, obedience by Christ and then His Bride the Firstfruits at that foretold future marriage of the Lamb.
So now we have an orthodoxy, Partial Preterists cannot just invent new eschatological chronological time periods for the perfection of the Church, that has already happened. Now we look back on their example and follow them, we look back on Christ and follow Him to that same perfection and that same second appearing a second time without sin. And if we have followed Christ together then the Gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church of Christ.
